Job Summary:

The Medical Manager is responsible for providing clinical leadership and oversight for all medical programmatic activities of AHF Lesotho. The role ensures delivery of high-quality, patient-centered HIV/AIDS care, and treatment services in alignment with national guidelines and AHF standards and priorities. The incumbent will oversee clinical teams, support strategic implementation of programs, ensure compliance, and contribute to achieving country program targets.

 

Position to be based as AHF Maseru Office

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Clinical Leadership & Quality Assurance

  • Provide overall clinical oversight for HIV prevention, care, and treatment services.
  • Ensure adherence to Lesotho Ministry of Health guidelines and AHF clinical protocols.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
  • Monitor patient outcomes including viral load suppression, retention, and adherence.
  • Support pharmacovigilance and rational drug use practices.

2. Program Implementation & Strategy

  • Contribute to the development and execution of the country operational plan.
  • Support scale-up of HIV testing services (HTS), ART initiation, differentiated service delivery (DSD), and prevention services.
  • Align program activities with national HIV strategies and AHF program priorities.
  • Participate in strategic planning and target setting.

3. Team Supervision & Capacity Building

  • Supervise medical officers, nurses, and clinical staff.
  • Identify training needs and coordinate continuous medical education.
  • Mentor and support facility teams to strengthen service delivery.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and high performance.

4. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with the Ministry of Health, district health teams, and partner organizations.
  • Represent AHF in technical working groups and relevant forums.
  • Support coordination with community-based organizations.

5. Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Review clinical data and ensure accuracy of reporting.
  • Analyze performance indicators and implement corrective actions where needed.
  • Contribute to donor and internal reports.
  • Support data-driven decision-making.

6. Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with national regulations and AHF policies.
  • Support infection prevention and control (IPC) standards.
  • Oversee ethical clinical practice and patient confidentiality.

 

Education and Experience

  • Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) registered with the Lesotho Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Council.
  • Masters qualification in Public Health, HIV Medicine, or related field (advantageous).
  • Minimum 10 years’ clinical experience, with at least 5 years in HIV/AIDS program management.
  • Experience working with donor-funded programs.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
