Job Summary:

Medical Officer position is largely a clinical practice job entailing providing out-patient review, diagnosis and treatment of a variety of diseases & injuries in general practice related to HIV/AIDS in line with AHF, ministry of Health and Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board. This position will be based in Nairlobi County.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that other cadres in patient management adhere to and operate according to set national and international standards and practices.
  • Ensures provision of high-quality care and service delivery at the center
  • Responsible for patient chart review and peer review following the guidelines established by the Policies and Procedures Committee
  • Provides clinical care in conjunction with other team members
  • Ensuring effective implementation of static and outreach services
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluation of activities relating to HIV care
  • Participate in or lead training activities as may be required
  • Attend medical provider meetings (at minimum once a month) to discuss difficult patients by participating in county and sub-county level HIV and TB technical working groups
  • Maintains adequate provider staffing in the healthcare center to ensure smooth flow of patients.
  • Maintains provider productivity to standards set by AHF management. This will include counseling staff and troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Ensure organization and attendance of healthcare center medical staff at weekly CME (Continuing Medical Education) and recommending CME as appropriate based on peer reviews and identified gaps or need for updates.
  • Performs medical procedures and minor surgeries including lumbar punctures, 1 & D of abscess, skin biopsies, bone marrow biopsies, treatment of condyloma via cryotherapy podophyllon application or tropical acid therapy
  • Compiling and submitting periodic reports - Preparation of work plans and technical reports
  • Other duties may be assigned from time to time.

 

Qualifications, Education, and Experience:

  • Medical Degree (MBChB) or its equivalent from a recognized university/institution.
  • Must be registered with the medical and dental practitioners board and have a current retention certificate from the board
  • A minimum of 5 years broad based clinical experience treating patients including HIV positive patients
  • Must be culturally sensitive and able to work in a wide variety of settings and cultures
