Job Summary:

Pharmaceutical Technologist is to provide technical and management oversight at the clinic.  The major roles are oversight of pharmacy section of Clinic including planning, procurement, and management. He/ She ensures standards of pharmacy practice are upheld in the clinic. This position will be based in Kisii County.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning and forecasting for program drugs and other medical supplies
  • Receiving and verifying drugs and medical supplies delivered to the central stores
  • Participating in the procurement of drugs and medical supplies
  • Maintenance of stock, storing and handling it properly.
  • Maintaining records, such as pharmacy files, inventories, control records for narcotics and controlled drugs
  • Ensuring timely delivery and adequate stocks of drugs and medical supplies are available in the sites
  • Reviewing prescriptions to assure accuracy and to evaluate their suitability.
  • Providing information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage.
  • Dispensing prescriptions and provide additional support to the medical team
  • Compile scheduled and ad hoc reports
  • Attend and participate in team conferences as requested.
  • May act as a team leader to assist with the provision and supervision of patient care.
  • Serving as AHFs advocate at the site level
  • Any other duties as assigned from time to time.

 

Qualifications, Education, and Experience:

  • Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized Institution
  • A minimum of 3 years working experience of which one must be in HIV related field is required.
  • Demonstrable skills in the use of computerized/ electronic Logistics management systems is required.
  • Registration by the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board
  • Prior experience treating HIV positive patients and familiarity with current HIV&AIDS, TB management practices and protocols
  • Experience in leading a team and building capacity in resource-limited settings will be an added advantage
